Healthy Tips for Spring
Healthy Tips for Spring including enjoying in-season produce, getting outside and exercising, washing your hands and more!
It's spring and I am so ready! Ready to get out of winter hibernation, spend time outside and eat all of the fresh spring foods. In the winter months (and unfortunately spring) there can still be lots of sickness going around. I know my family has been hit pretty hard in February and March with sickness and I'm going to share the healthy tips for Spring that we follow.

1. Enjoy spring produce
Goodbye soups and stews, hello fresh salads, pasta salad and fresh foods! Some in-season spring produce includes asparagus, strawberries, peas, carrots, radishes, rhubarb, lettuce, green onions and more. I almost always make sure to have produce with my meal, especially at lunch and dinner. Having a variety of fruits and veggies in your diet makes it so you get a variety of vitamins and minerals and of course, fiber!
2. Wash your hands often
Cold and flu germs are stick everywhere and I'm over being sick so we are making sure to wash our hands a bunch. The stomach bug just went through our house and we made sure to wash our hands a ton to try to avoid everyone getting it. According to the CDC, you should wash your hands for at least 20 seconds scrubbing thoroughly and then drying your hands completely.
Handwashing is so important in keeping us healthy. I recently learned more from this years Healthy HandwashingSurvey from Bradley Company. They do this research each year and this year, 1,032 adults were surveyed about using public bathrooms, washing their hands and cold and flu season. The survey showed that adults wash their hands on average 7.6 times per day. 81% of people say that they always wash their hands after using a public bathroom and 11% say they usually do.
79% of people wash their hands more often during cold and flu season. 40% of parents think that their kids don't wash their hands enough. Learn more statistics about handwashing from the 2025 Bradley survey.
3. Get outside
This winter, I spent a lot of time exercising indoors and am so excited to get outside more for my exercise. My favorite form of exercise is to walk outside everyday. It makes me feel amazing! I also love running, biking and kayaking. I encourage you to get outside for some fresh air. It does wonders for your mental health.
4. Organize your home
When my home is cluttered, so is my mind. Especially because I work from home. I have been taking some time to organize my house. Clear out any piles of paper and recycle as much as possible. Donate old clothes and toys that you don't use anymore. Get things in order so when the nicer weather really hits, you don't have to spend time inside cleaning and organizing.
5. Wear sunscreen
As we spend more time outside in the nicer weather, make sure you put on sunscreen each day. I aim for SPF of 30 or higher to protect my skin from my sun.
6. Get plenty of sleep
Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night. I know that I personally feel awful if I don't get enough sleep so I focus on getting good sleep each night. My favorite nighttime tips for sleep are using a weighted blanket, listening to white noise and reading before bed.
