3-Ingredient Whole-Wheat Tortillas
3-Ingredient Whole-Wheat Tortillas are so easy to make with white whole-wheat flour, olive oil and salt! They're soft and do not fall apart when eating them.
You guys, I am freaking out about this recipe!! Homemade tortillas! I did not know that tortillas were something that was so easy to make. It was barely any work and they tasted like the best flour tortillas ever. So fresh and delicious. The best part about them is that they are 100% whole-wheat so they are full of fiber and have olive oil for healthy fats. I highly recommend these 3-Ingredient Whole-Wheat Tortillas and know that you will love them.
I love eating Mexican food so much and we always buy our tortillas. I have had homemade tortillas on my must-make recipe list for at least two years and finally decided to make them. With being home all the time, we have more time for things like baking. I also wanted to share a healthy bread-type recipe that has no yeast in it. I know that people are having trouble finding yeast in stores so these healthy whole-wheat tortillas that only require white whole-wheat flour, olive oil and salt are perfect. You can use them for Mexican-inspired meals, for sandwiches, instead of bread or anything really!
As you can see, I served my easy whole-wheat tortillas in the form of tacos. I seasoned some black beans with homemade taco seasoning and topped them with tomatoes, sauteed peppers and onions and a red cabbage slaw. So good! They held up really well and did not fall apart.
I also served them to my kids as black bean quesadillas and they worked well like that. They are very soft and I was able to serve them to Lily at 9 months old torn up. One day after making these, they were still nice and soft. I smothered one in peanut butter and it was awesome as a sweet treat as well. So versatile.
When Oliver sees me cooking, he has to help. He was not taking no for an answer when it comes to rolling out these 3-ingredient whole-wheat tortillas so I snapped a photo of him rolling one out. So fun! He played with that dough for at least 30 minutes. Don't worry, we discarded his piece of dough after he dropped it a few times.
Tips for perfecting whole-wheat tortillas
- Roll out the dough until it is as thin as possible. If there are uneven spots, it will cook unevenly. You want it to be super thin like a traditional tortilla.
- As you cook each tortilla, wrap it in a clean, dry kitchen towel to keep tortillas warm before you eat.
- You can easily make the dough and not cook the tortillas until later. I cooked a few up at once and then divided the rest into balls. When I was ready to cook the rest of the tortillas, I rolled them out and cooked them. It turned out perfectly that way.
