Everyone loves crispy chicken strips, right? Hot honey chicken is all the rage, and I decided it was time to make my own healthier baked chicken strips to share. Of course, I couldn’t just make plain crispy baked chicken but decided to make hot honey chicken loaded with flavor instead. I hope you enjoy!
When deciding what ingredients to use for the batter, I wanted to make these chicken strips healthier, so I went with white whole-wheat flour. It tastes like all-purpose flour but contains more vitamins and fiber.
I love flavor, so I added garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper for the breading. I used an egg and milk mixture to coat the strips and then covered it in the breading mixture. I baked the chicken strips in the oven instead of frying them to make them healthier. You won’t miss the deep-fried breading!
For the hot honey sauce, I decided to keep it super simple and just mix together a mixture of honey and my favorite hot sauce. Alternatively, you can use cayenne pepper and garlic instead of the hot sauce.
My family eats dinner together every night, and my kids love this meal. At first, I left some chicken strips plain because I thought that these might be too hot for my kids, but I was so wrong. They loved the spice! I ended up adding the sauce to theirs as well. My daughter told me "Mommy, I love these so much. They're a little spicy, but I don't care. I love spicy now!"
