I just made the best
smoothie that I have ever made, and I am going to share it with you! This blueberry lemon
smoothie is so, so tasty that I think that I'm going to make it at least a
couple of times per week for breakfast or for a snack. This healthy smoothie is
so easy to make and filling too! It is perfect for after a workout or even for breakfast
on-the-go.
How to Make a Blueberry Lemon Smoothie
I couldn't decide if I wanted to do lemon juice or a whole lemon (aside from the peel) and decided to go with the whole lemon for extra fiber. I'm so glad that I did! It is delicious. I just cut the peel off of my lemon with a knife and literally threw the entire lemon into my blender. I added in blueberry Greek yogurt for a boost of protein and sweetness. Feel free to use plain Greek yogurt or vanilla Greek yogurt instead.
I added in a protein
powder with ProHydrolase in it to make the smoothie more filling, and then I
added milk for liquid to blend it all up. ProHydrolase helps to break down
protein and is helpful for people who have intestinal discomfort when eating
protein enhanced products. I do not personally suffer from GI issues when
having protein powder because I don't use it in larger quantities but
definitely know people who have issues when using protein powder. Also, if I use
a larger quantity of protein powder though, I have gotten GI upset from it.
To buy my protein powder
with ProHydrolase in
it, I just searched for it on Amazon and was able to find quite a few brands
that have it. I use it like I would any other protein powder: in a smoothie, in
overnight oats, etc. I have had no issues when using this protein powder and
have had no GI issues which is great.
ProHydrolase can help
the body absorb more protein instead of excreting it. It helps to greatly
reduce digestive discomfort that is caused when protein is not broken down for
easy digestion of protein supplements. It works with various types of protein
including whey, soy, egg, casein, hemp and pea. Studies have also shown that it
helps to increase the available amino acids in the blood, decrease C-reactive
protein levels and decrease the large peptides that cause stomach discomfort
when using protein supplements.
When I made this
smoothie, I went with frozen blueberries since they are inexpensive, easy to
find and give the smoothie an awesome thick and frozen consistency. This
smoothie is tart and tangy while having hints of sweetness. I can't wait to
experiment more with citrus in smoothies!
The chef of this delicious smoothie was my son who just turned 2! He has to help me in the kitchen with everything and added the lemon, protein and Greek yogurt to the smoothie along with pressing start on the blender. It's a great opportunity to get kids in the kitchen and to drink a nutritious smoothie.
Funny story, as I was about to photograph this blueberry lemon smoothie, my poster board that I use to reflect light fell over and knocked over an entire smoothie! Oh my goodness, I have never cleaned up a bigger mess than over 8 ounces of blueberry smoothie everywhere. Thank goodness I had plenty of ingredients to make more!
