Tips for refreshing your hair for summer including a fresh trim, color, what to avoid and a few easy hairstyles to try!

Summertime is finally here! I am so pumped. Summer is definitely my season because I love to do all things outside. The warmer weather opens up so many different opportunities and looking through my calendar for the next few months, we are going to be busy! So many free summer concerts to go to, parties, trips to the pool and more.

I tend to be super low-maintenance when it comes to makeup and hair. I have been trying to take better care of my hair, though, so it looks better, as well as spending a couple of minutes putting on a little makeup because it helps me feel better about myself as I work from home and take care of my kiddos. I am excited to share some of my tips for how to refresh your hair this summer.

How to Refresh Your Hair for Summer

1. Get a fresh trim

You may be surprised to hear that it has been 11 years since I got my hair cut by anyone else but myself. That's right! In 2008, I decided that my haircut was simple enough to do it myself so I started cutting my own hair. I trim it the best that I can and then have my husband fix any parts that I messed up. This usually shocks people but my haircut is so simple that I don't really need a fancy haircut! A fresh trim helps remove split ends which I definitely have a lot of after a long, cold winter. I just trimmed my hair last week and it felt better right away.

2. Give it a boost of color

I wrote back in December that I am definitely growing some grey hair. I am only 29 so I'm definitely not ready to go grey. My favorite hair dye is Zotos Professional AGEbeautiful Liqui-Crème anti-aging hair color from Sally Beauty. It is affordable, looks great and lasts a long time.

Eek! Look at all of those greys.

I dyed my hair with this Zotos hair dye back in December and was very happy with the results. I am enjoying this fresher color for summer, especially since I wear my hair up more in the summer due to the heat, and my grey hair on the side shows a lot more.

There is something about a fresh boost of color that can help you feel your best and gives your hair an extra great look. There are 5 signs of aging for your hair including losing volume, manageability, color, moisture and shine. This hair color is the first one to fight all 5 signs of aging!

AGEbeautiful Liqui-Crème hair color gives 100% grey coverage, which I totally need it to cover my greys, and it is sold exclusively at Sally Beauty. AGEbeautiful Liqui-Crème hair color has melanin, keratin peptide, silk protein and conditioning technology to replenish hair with parts lost with aging.

I went with the same color as I did last time since I was happy with it. It's called 6G- light golden brown. It is not very light at all, but is most similar to my current color, which is what I was going for. I am very happy with it! They have tons of different colors and it is super affordable for the color (less than $7!). You also need a bottle of developer to go with the color which is a few dollars more. You can dye your hair for less than $10. You just mix a ratio of 1:1 of the developer and color and, for most people, 20 volume is the right developer.

***By using code 555983 at Sally Beauty, you can get a FREE AGEbeautiful 4oz Developer w/ the purchase of any AGEbeautiful liquid-crème color which is an awesome deal! Through 8/1/19 as supplies last.

3. Use dry shampoo

With the weather being hot, hair can get greasy and sweaty faster. The best tool that I learned about a couple of years ago: dry shampoo! It is especially my secret weapon as a mom when I don't have time to wash my own hair and need to take care of the kids. A quick spray and hair can instantly look fresher.

4. Know a few simple hairstyles

I am not the woman who spends hours doing crazy braids, curling and doing updos on her hair. I like to keep it simple and pretty much either have my hair down, in a ponytail, in a bun or in a braid. Having a few ideas of how to do hair though can be fun and can make you feel good when you are going somewhere fun.

5. Limit heat styling

We all know that blow drying, straightening and curling your hair is not great for your hair so especially in the summer when life is simpler, limit using these heat styling tools to give your hair a break. Hair dries faster in the warmer weather so you can probably skip the blow dryer at times or at least wait to blow dry it until your hair is mostly already dry.

6. Wash hair after swimming in chlorine

We spend lots of our summer at the pool and therefore, our hair can get a little funky from the chlorine. To get chlorine out of your hair, simply wash it after swimming. We like rinsing off at our pool to get the chlorine off of our skin as well.

These are my simple tips for refreshing your hair for summer! What are your favorite ways to make your hair look awesome for summer?
