The Best Things About the Detroit Zoo

Since Adalyn was born over 4 years ago, we have been members of the Detroit Zoo located in Royal Oak, MI. The zoo is about a half hour drive from my house and we visit there frequently. The Detroit Zoo is open year-round and we love visiting during all seasons of the year. Some of the best days to visit the zoo are when it is cold out actually since the animals are often more active when it isn't hot. Today, I wanted to share some of the reasons that we love the zoo.

The Best Things About the Detroit Zoo

1. It's great exercise

We love visiting the Detroit Zoo for exercise. The kids get to run around and have fun and it is a great excuse for mom to get a couple miles of walking in.

2. Different animals are exciting each time

One of the things that I love about the zoo that gets me to go back frequently is that each time we are there, we have a different experience. One day, the polar bears might be playing with each other under water. Another day, we may have a great talk with one of the volunteers about the chimpanzees. Another day, we may get to see the penguins being fed. What keeps it exciting is that you really don't  know what to expect each time you visit.

3. We learn something new each time

We love talking to the zookeepers and volunteers that can teach the kids and I more about the different animals. They are happy to share information about the animals and we learn new things about them every single time. We like learning about the kangaroos, chimpanzees and polar bears especially.

4. They're always working on improving

The red pandas just got an awesome new exhibit. They're working on the tiger exhibit and a few years ago, they got a huge amazing penguin exhibit. I like that they are working on improving the zoo to make it better.

5. It's a great place to meetup with friends and family

Over the last 4 years, we have gone to the zoo with almost all of our friends and family members. When you're looking for something to do, it is an awesome place to meetup with family and friends because everyone can have a great time at the zoo. Everyone from babies to the elderly can enjoy a day spent at the Detroit Zoo.
