Traveling to Niagara Falls with Kids

Traveling to Niagara Falls with Kids- where to stay, what to do and where to eat in Niagara Falls, Canada!
Traveling to Niagara Falls with Kids
We just got back from our second trip to Niagara Falls, Canada. The last time we were there, Adalyn was only 18 months old so it was fun to go with both kids at ages 4 1/2 and 2. The hotel, fun things to do and food were awesome and I can't wait to share it with you!

What was awful though was that through our 2 night stay, both of our kids got super sick for most of the trip. It was awful being away from home helping my babies get through the stomach bug. Then, right when we got home, within a couple of hours, Troy and I both caught it. We didn't get to do as much in Niagara Falls as we wanted but we made the most of the trip anyways.

Where to Stay in Niagara Falls

We stayed at the DoubleTree Fallsview Resort and Spa by Hilton- Niagara Falls which I highly recommend. It is a beautiful hotel with delicious food, a beautiful lobby that looks like a ski lodge, spacious rooms and the best pools for the family.

We had a suite where Troy and I had our own room, a hallway where we placed Oliver's pack and play and a living room with a pullout couch where Adalyn slept. It was perfect for our family of 4.

The room had a great view of the Skylon Tower which was totally Oliver's favorite part of the trip looking out the window and watching the yellow elevator go up and down. He honestly watched it for hours over the 3 days. When it disappeared, he would say "more, more, more". We also had views of the American Falls but not the best view of them. We could see the Skywheel- the big ferris wheel in town which was neat too.

There are two pools which are both saltwater pools and a hot tub. We enjoyed them all! Troy liked doing laps in the adult pool. Adalyn loved the hot tub and Oliver liked the kid-friendly walk in part of the family pool. We spent so much time at the pool which I loved because I tend to overbook us on trips and this time, I wanted the kids to really be able to enjoy these pools because they are good ones.

We ate breakfast at Buchanan's each day at the breakfast buffet and everything was very delicious! I had a croissant each morning which is my favorite vacation treat. We also had eggs, fried potatoes, fruit, yogurt, sausage, bacon, pancakes, French toast and more. It was a wonderful breakfast buffet. Oddly, our favorite part was the apple juice which I guess is common in Canada and tasted just like orchard fresh apple cider, not typical plain apple juice. So good!

What to Do in Niagara Falls

-Visit the falls of course! This time, we didn't do any tours as a lot of the tours are closed for the season but you can still see amazing views of the American Falls and the Horseshoe Falls just by walking by the water. The American Falls had a lot of snow and ice which made them look so beautiful!

-Visit Clifton Hill! We love Clifton Hill and got the Fun Pass which comes with 6 attractions plus arcade tokens. We got to ride the Skywheel ferris wheel which is a must-do in Niagara Falls for the amazing views of the city. The kids loved the arcade where they could ride little rides.

We got to play Wizard Golf which is glow-in-the-dark putt putt golf. Troy and I love this but the kids were a little young so we rushed through it. The Wild West Coaster was fun and we felt like we were really on a roller coaster.

-Bird Kingdom- One of my favorite parts of Niagara Falls is visiting Bird Kingdom. They have tons of different birds, bats, turtles, snakes, spiders and more to see. It is a really fun place to visit at Niagara and only takes about 45 minutes to an hour to go through.

We even got to feed the birds which was honestly terrifying to the kids and I because a bunch of birds land on you, were nipping a bit and were loudly chirping in our ears. Troy loved it though and a few hours after we left, Adalyn said that she loved it.

We loved meeting the different birds including Jojo pictured above.

We love the open area where the birds fly free and we can see all kinds of gorgeous birds.

Where to Eat at Niagara Falls

-We loved eating breakfast at Buchanan's each morning.

-We visited Boston Pizza located in Clifton Hill twice because it is so good. I had the best chicken sandwich of my life. It was the Memphis Chicken Sandwich featuring Buttermilk-breaded fried chicken in Memphis hot sauce, cheddar, bacon, ranch, pickles, tomato and lettuce. It was perfectly crispy and loaded with flavor. Highly recommend!

Troy ordered a chicken quesadilla which was pretty good. When we came back for dinner that night, we ordered the Mad Mad pizza for the family which was like a cheeseburger. Troy really liked it and thought it was okay. What was also so, so delicious was this dessert that we shared which had fresh warm churro doughnuts, vanilla ice cream, sauteed fresh pineapple and caramel sauce. That was amazing!!

Niagara Falls is a great place to take a short trip with family and there is lots to see and do. I look forward to returning again! Check out our other trip to Niagara Falls a few years ago.
