5 Ways to Spring Clean Your Diet (for Dogs too!)
5 ways to spring clean your diet including eating more produce, drinking water, cleaning our your pantry, making sure your pets are getting great nutrition and more!
With the weather getting nicer, I find myself wanting to eat lighter and fresher foods. It's time for more salads, grilled foods and tons of veggies. We always feel our best when we eat better and therefore, I want to make sure that it happens more often. Along with spring cleaning our diets, we are making sure that the dogs are getting awesome nutrition to fuel their more active spring and summer lifestyles. I'm excited to share these tips for spring cleaning your diet!
We recently made a big salad bar for dinner and it was so much fun. Adalyn and I made a build-your-own-salad bar which went over better than I ever thought it would. We all loved it! She chopped veggies and I grated carrots, chopped lunch meat, cheese, etc. These were some of our toppings: grated carrots, red cabbage, tomatoes, green pepper, cucumber, turkey, cheddar cheese, homemade whole-grain croutons and kidney beans. The kids got to make their own bowls and pretty much ate every single bite! They had so much fun. I think that this is going on our menu at least a couple times a month.
Freshpet uses all natural ingredients and the food stays fresher in the fridge. The dogs are loving the Freshpet Fresh From the Kitchen Chicken which has shredded chicken, carrots, spinach and cranberries. Each ingredient is chosen for their nutrient content such as having antioxidants and essential vitamins for pets. There is never any preservatives added.
Ava has some different allergies and I think that she does well on this fresh food made with real meat. The dogs think that they're getting table food but we know that they are getting exactly what they need to feel their best. Spring cleaning your pet's diet is important too!

One tip that I picked up over the last year is to have like-items in baskets in the pantry. All of our oatmeal supplies go together like chia seeds, protein powder, ground flax and oats. Baking supplies like sugar, baking soda and flour go in a basket together. This really helps to keep everything together and makes it easier to find what you need.
When getting rid of items, make sure to check on expired pet food or pet food and treats that may not be the healthiest choice for your pets. Consider trying Freshpet which is stored in the fridge and is super fresh instead!

5 Ways to Spring Clean Your Diet
Incorporate more fresh produce
We always feel our best when eating more produce so my favorite tip for spring cleaning our diets is to incorporate more veggies into our meals. We always have some kind of vegetable with our lunch and dinner but when we make our meals mostly vegetable based, we feel even better. We recently made a big salad bar for dinner and it was so much fun. Make sure your pet's nutrition is top notch
There is no food that my dogs like better than the food from Freshpet. It is stored in the fridge and is loaded with nutrients that your pet needs. When we pull out the food or treats from Freshpet, they go completely insane. They run around like crazy dogs and pretty much freak out. It is too cute! They even got Freshpet treats for Christmas because our family knows how much they love them.Freshpet uses all natural ingredients and the food stays fresher in the fridge. Have a "use everything in the pantry and freezer challenge"
During this last month, I challenged myself to buy no food besides produce, dairy and eggs for the most part. Our two freezers were literally overflowing and our pantries were loaded. I realized that we needed to eat a ton of the food before buying any more. It has been a super fun challenge that has forced me to get creative a couple of times! We have eaten well though: peanut noodles with baked tofu and vegetables, sheet pan sausage, potatoes and vegetables and veggie loaded sloppy joe have all been on the menu. This allows you use the food that you have before it goes bad and save some money in the process. Our grocery bill was so much lower this last month!Drink more water
I sound like a broken record here but any post about health and nutrition deserves a mention that drinking more water is one of the healthiest habits you can have. For pets, make sure their water bowl is always filled with water, especially as the weather gets warmer. For people, carry a reusable water bottle with you everywhere you go and regularly sip water.Clean out your pantry, freezer and fridge
Since I am pregnant, I am nesting like crazy and one of the million things that I am doing before baby #3 gets here is organizing the entire house. I am going crazy getting rid of everything and putting organizing solutions in place to make our lives a little more sane. I am getting rid of expired items, using up what needs to be used up and getting rid of random junk food that we have and totally do not need in our lives. One tip that I picked up over the last year is to have like-items in baskets in the pantry. All of our oatmeal supplies go together like chia seeds, protein powder, ground flax and oats. Baking supplies like sugar, baking soda and flour go in a basket together.
