The weather is finally warmer and I'm craving all of the frozen treats! You know I love making healthier desserts, especially healthier ice creams. Making a healthy ice cream is my #1 favorite healthy hack because it always tastes so rich and delicious but is so much healthier for you. My Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream is a big hit on my site so I thought that I would make other kinds of cheesecake frozen yogurt.
I chose to make Berry Cheesecake Ice Cream for this recipe and I think that you're going to love it. It is high in protein, has no added sugar or sweeteners and tastes absolutely delicious. Both of my kids went crazy for it. I used a blend of frozen raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries for this recipe. I used vanilla yogurt for this recipe but feel free to use strawberry, blueberry or mixed berry flavor. You can also use plain Greek yogurt and add sweetener to taste.
This treat takes 5 minutes to make which is perfect for when you're busy but still want a healthier homemade dessert. I'm shocked to say it but I've been adding some running back into my exercise routine and this makes an awesome treat after a run. I find that when I exercise more, I'm hungrier of course but also, I want to eat better.
I have less junky snacks and more fruits and vegetables and lean protein snacks. The warmer weather definitely has me getting outside and exercising more with the kids which makes me so happy. We typically take a walk after dinner and the kids and I enjoy having a treat afterwards such as this frozen yogurt.
For this recipe, I used Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein Isolate from Walmart. It added extra protein to the recipe as well as a delicious vanilla flavor. The powder is easy to mix into liquid but when I use protein powder, I prefer to mix it right into a recipe such as a baked good, homemade ice cream, overnight oats and more. A serving has 130 calories, 25 grams protein and no artificial colors, flavors, gluten or sweeteners. It comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors and can be used before or after your workout. Personally, I think that it makes an awesome post-workout snack.
Optimum Nutrition also makes Protein Cake Bites which was whipped protein snacks covered in yogurt or chocolate flavored frosting. They have 20 grams of protein for a 3-cake serving. They come in birthday cake, red velvet, chocolate dipped cherry and chocolate frosted donut flavors. Yum! These birthday cake ones were really tasty.
They also have an Optimum Nutrition Performance Energy product which contains caffeine. It is fruit flavored and mixes into water to have before a workout and comes in grape and watermelon flavors.
