Get Your Flu Shot!
We had our first taste of kid's being sick this summer when Adalyn started vomiting out of nowhere and had a fever of up to 104 degrees. It was horrible! I felt so bad seeing my little girl being sick. We were so lucky though that she had never really been sick until right before her third birthday but it still had us worried. As you know, I am a big supporter of vaccines. I do not get very controversial on the blog about religion or politics or anything but when it comes to vaccines, I feel so strongly about them that you can't change my mind and I feel comfortable sharing about them.
Adalyn had her 3 year old checkup this week and Oliver had his 6 month checkup and both kids got their flu vaccines. All of my family members and I get our flu vaccines each year and have been texting each other if we got them, where we got them or when we plan to get them. We all find it important to be protected from the flu.
I have to tell you the cutest story about Adalyn at the doctor's office. I was a bit worried about her freaking out about getting her shot so I prepared her ahead of time. I told her that they would weigh her, measure her height, take her temperature, her blood pressure, listen to her heart, etc. I also reminded her of when she was sick and vomiting and how horrible that was. She remembers it well. I told her that she would be getting a shot that felt like a little pinch and it would help to prevent getting sick again.
When we got to the doctor's office, she acted so good and was not even worried about her shot. When she got it, she did cry a bit but not as horrible as it would have been if I didn't explain why she was getting the shot. Though she was upset, she quickly calmed down so that she could hold her baby brother's hand as he got several shots since it was his 6 month appointment and he was due for a few. Kids really can understand things if you explain it to them!
Anyways, I plan to get my flu shot today and Troy needs to get his in the next week or so. Sam's Club has flu shots now as well which would be super helpful if you are there picking up some groceries and other things you need for your home. I love going to Sam's Club- especially when there are samples out of course. Sam's is a great place to get your flu shot quickly. Just visit your Sam's Club Pharmacy- no appointment needed! Walk-in's are welcome!
Each year, up to 1 in 5 people in the US gets the flu- yuck! In the 2015-2016 flu season, more than 300,000 people were hospitalized with flu-related complications. Honestly, this surprised me a lot. I know that you feel terrible when you get the flu but I didn't realize just how sick you could really be. Even healthy people can be hospitalized and diet every year from the flu. With the colder temperatures unfortunately seems to come the flu and colds so protect yourself and your loved ones by getting your flu shot! Find a club that has flu shots available.
