Healthy Pregnancy Smoothie
This Healthy Pregnancy Smoothie is packed full of nutrients for moms-to-be including folic acid, calcium, protein, iron and omega-3 fatty acids! It takes two minutes to make and is full of flavor.
First of all, thank you everyone so much for the pregnancy congrats! I was blown away with your love and support! We are super excited for baby #2 to be born!
As a second time mom-to-be, I am looking forward to meeting my baby. My pregnancy has been going well so far but I have certainly had some the typical pregnancy symptoms: tiredness, mood swings, food aversions, etc. With the food aversions, I have to eat what sounds good at the time which changes daily making it a little hard to meal plan and grocery shop.
As a dietitian, I know the nutrients that I need to consume to grow a healthy baby. Some of the main ones are fiber, folic acid, iron, calcium, protein and omega-3 fatty acids. This smoothie has it all! I chose the ingredients in this smoothie so that it would include these essential pregnancy nutrients and it tastes great too!
The orange provides folic acid which is essential to help prevent neural tube defects in babies. The chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids for brain health. The Greek yogurt is packed with protein and calcium. The spinach has iron and folic acid. The banana is for vitamins and minerals, especially potassium. This smoothie takes 2 minutes to make and is the perfect breakfast or snack. When I do not feel like having a big meal, a smoothie almost always sounds good!
Enjoy!
