Adalyn 6 Month Update
Seriously, where does the time go? I am sitting here tearing up thinking about how amazing and quickly the last 6 months have gone. How much has happened in this short amount of time and how much love Troy and I feel for this little girl. Honestly, becoming a parent is the very best thing that has ever happened to me and I love being Adalyn's mom. Okay, onto the 6 month details.
Clothing size: Mostly 6 month clothes, some 3 month still fit
Diapers: Moved up to size 2!
Weight: 14 lbs 8.5 oz (25th percentile)
Height: 26.5 inches (75th percentile)
Feedings: We started solids right before 5 months and haven't looked back. Adalyn has tried so many new foods and loved them all so far. I make Adalyn all of her food homemade and it is so simple. Right now, we feed her just one time per day while we eat our dinner. She loves eating while we are.
Adalyn is an amazing eater and opens her mouth when she sees the food coming her way and can eat a good amount at once (2-3 oz maybe). We are doing mostly purees so far but have given her a couple pieces of whole foods to suck/bite on: steamed broccoli, red pepper, prune.
Foods that she has had: green beans, sweet potato, avocado, grapefruit/lemon/orange (I know we were supposed to wait on citrus...), peas, applesauce, apple, oatmeal, plum, pear, zucchini, celery, potato, broccoli, prune, and kale. I am such a proud dietitian Mamma because her favorite food is kale. She eats more kale than any other food in one sitting.
In the last 1 week, I have been working on eliminating nighttime feeds. When Adalyn wakes at night, she often able to put herself back to sleep. If not, we go and comfort her but are not picking her up and are not feeding her. I believe that the eating at night is more for comfort than anything and am fine with comforting her but think it is time to cut down on night feedings. In the last 8 nights, I have only had to feed her once (I could tell that she was truly hungry)!!!!
I am also working on cutting out her 5:30 PM feeding. I was feeding her when I got home at 3:30, 5:30 and ~7. I think that this is too much in a short period of time, especially since she is getting her solids meal at ~5:30 or 6 so I am working on cutting out that feeding. If she does not eat at night and is able to combine feedings and skip the 5:30 one, she will be eating 5 times per day plus a solids meal.
While I am at work, she eats 2-3 pumped bottles of 5-6 oz of milk. Also, she is still on 1 ml of Zantac twice per day. She still spits up quite a bit which I am going to talk to the doctor about at her 6 month appointment.
Sleep: Bedtime is 7-7:15 PM each night. Falling asleep is often hard for Adalyn and we often have to go check on her and comfort her 2-4 or more times. She is not one of those babies that falls asleep in a couple of minutes- even if she is super tired.
Bedtime routine changed in the last week: We do diaper change, meds, Baby Merlin Magic Sleepsuit, breastfeed, Wubbanub pacifier and bed. Yes, this means that for bedtime, we are no longer doing a swaddle!! Since we started the Baby Merlin Magic Sleepsuit 1 week ago, Adalyn has slept through the night 5 out of 8 nights (7-6 AM about)!! Troy randomly wanted to try the sleepsuit instead of the swaddle and I was so nervous because she loves her Halo swaddle but it was a good change, especially as she is 6 months old.
Adalyn is napping 3 times per day for 3 minutes to every-so-often 1 1/2 hours. The eat, play, sleep cycle is working well for us. We are still using the Halo swaddle for some naps as it helps her relax. It is usually difficult to get her to nap- she is very resistant.
Milestones-
-Continues to smile and laugh like crazy. Standing really well with limited support. Grabbing everything- including my hair, plate of food, coffee cup, everything haha. Continues to roll over from stomach to back. Loves looking in the mirror at herself. Can hold herself up for tummy time for about 30 minutes. Talking so much. Loves her hands. Still kicking everything.
-New this month- when we sit Adalyn up, she is able to stay up pretty well.
-She is doing "planks" as we call them where she holds her entire body up.
-Being tossed in the air. Joking around. Tickling. Us "eating your feet".
-She can scoot herself all around when she is on tummy time. I will put her on one spot on the mat and look over and she has moved backwards 3 feet.
-Gives kisses!!!! Sloppy, wet, opened mouth kisses that I love so much. So far, she only gives them to my sister and I.
-She sat in the big part of the stroller a couple times this month instead of just in the car seat.
-Went in the swing at the park for the first time this month.
-Pets the dogs so well. When they walk by, she loves staring at them. See the picture above- this is my life- dog licking baby wearing a vest : )
-Loves taking baths with mom! (I love it too!).
-Went sledding for the first time and loved it!
-She loves touching my Busia's (Grandma) face- not sure why her specifically but it is adorable!
-Her feet are better than any toy she has- she loves trying to put them in her mouth, holding them, etc.
-She can grab and reach for toys. When you take an object away from her, she cries.
-Knows her name when you call it
-Still loves walks which we are doing almost daily now that the weather is nicer- she likes the Solly Baby Wrap, Boba Carrier and her Graco jogging stroller.
-Does "crunches" where she is laying on her back and picks her head up
-Can grab her Wubbanub and put it back in her mouth.
-Loves being up in the air, bouncing, standing, dancing, tickling, her dad and all things fun.
This month has been a blast!! I love my baby girl so much and am so proud to be her mom. This age is so fun.
