Katz Gluten Free Review

Katz Gluten Free
As a registered dietitian, I get a lot of questions about following a gluten-free diet. More and more people are being diagnosed as having Celiac disease and gluten intolerance. This has caused the need for an increase  in gluten-free products in the marketplace. I love to try gluten-free products even though I do not follow a gluten-free diet so that I can tell people which products are worth trying and which are not.

Katz is a brand of gluten-free products including breads, cookies, rolls, pizza dough and more. For my review, I was sent the following products: whole grain sandwich rolls, pizza crust, whole grain bread, wholesome bread, oat challah rolls, apricot tart and oat bread.
Gluten Free Apricot Tarts
I wanted to try the Katz apricot tarts because they looked similar to thumbprint cookies that we make around Christmas. These have 110 calories for about 2 cookies. They are made with gluten-free flours including corn, tapioca, brown rice and sorghum. The flavor of these cookies was good. They tasted normal but were more crumbly than non gluten-free cookies. I wish that they were made with more wholesome ingredients than these refined flours however. For a treat, they make a decent option for those who need to follow a gluten-free diet.
Whole Grain Bread Gluten Free
My husband and I used the Katz Wholesome Bread to make some buffalo chicken sandwiches. One slice of this bread contains 80 calories, 1 gram of sugar, 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein. It contains fava beans, garbanzo beans, teff and chia seeds. I did not like this bread untoasted since I found it to be dry but toasted it was pretty tasty with some peanut butter and jam.

Overall, I think that these Katz products are pretty tasty. I do think that they were more dry than other products but if you pair moist foods with them, they were pretty good. I would mostly stick with the whole grain versions since they contain more fiber and vitamins.
