Melissa's Produce Review and Giveaway
Melissa's is a company that sells all sorts of fresh, cooked, and dried produce. They also sell different grains, beans, etc. A year or so ago, I was sent Melissa's cookbook called Everyday Cooking with Organic Produce. It is a fantastic cookbook filled with tons and tons of recipes using different fruits and vegetables. When it come to cooking, typically I am pretty creative but sometimes, you just don't know what to do with an odd vegetable. This book has recipes for everything that sound great!
This time, I was sent some different grains, beets, potatoes, and lentils. I am a huge fan of beets but of course one of the major negatives is that it dyes your hands reddish and can be messy. These beets from Melissa's come pre-peeled, precooked, and ready to eat. To make the salad below, I just opened the package, took out the beet, and sliced it up. Easy! It tasted just like when I make them fresh.

Salad with romaine lettuce, tomato, Melissa's beets, and green pepper
I have not used the grains yet but am excited to come up with a fun summer salad with them. I used the yellow potatoes in a BBQ ranch potato salad that was a big hit. My favorite thing about this company is that you can search for all types of unique and unusual produce and learn all about the uses for them, when they grow, and their nutrition. I found a few items that I really want to try that I have not before but they are not in season yet. Check out Melissa's for all different types of produce.

ReplyDeleteI love zucchini, but I'm not sure I could choose a single *favorite* way I prepare it. I love it steamed with other veg, or in pasta, like a zucchini lasagna, but I think my very favorite just might be a zucchini scramble (sliced zucchini and onions sauteed in a pan, then add a couple of eggs over the mixture and scrambled, then topped with parmesan cheese...YUM!).
