The last few weeks have been so much fun with Adalyn in the kitchen! We have been having a blast cooking together. In the last month, we made: a cake for her birthday, French toast for breakfast, lemon bars for a family gathering and yogurt bowls with a bunch of toppings. She has been learning to listen better and not just grab a handful of plain flour and eat it making it a better experience for both of us! As the weather gets cooler, we are having fun cooking things in the kitchen. It is just so cozy during the fall!
I enjoy teaching her through cooking simple recipes together and she feels such a sense of accomplishment when she has made something herself. This fall, we are loving doing all kinds of activities together while Troy is at work. We have been taking trips to the zoo, walks outside to look at the leaves changing colors, a trip to the apple orchard to pick these honeycrisp apples that we used in this recipe and much more! One of our current favorite things to do is to cook together. We keep the recipes simple typically which makes it easier for the both of us.
When Adalyn wakes up after her nap, she asks me "Mommy, what are we having for snack?". I like to switch things up and so does she so we have been eating all kinds of different things. I usually choose food that takes about 5 minutes to make or less just because it always seems like we are busy.

We made these Apple and Pumpkin Greek Yogurt Topped Waffles for snack one afternoon and they were so good! They come together in just a couple of minutes and are totally something that you can make with your kids which is really fun.
I had my daughter mix the Greek yogurt, pumpkin and pumpkin spice together. I sliced the apples. She started the waffles in the toaster.
Then, she spread the Greek yogurt pumpkin mixture on the waffles and laid down the slices of apples on top of the waffle. She could do most of this simple recipe herself and she just turned 3! Of course, an adult can make this recipe as well but it really is fun to do it with your kids or if your kids are a little older, they can probably make it themselves.
Prep time: 5 minutes
1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
1/4 cup canned pumpkin puree
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 apple, sliced
2. Toast waffles until crispy.
3. Spread waffles with pumpkin Greek yogurt mixture. Top with apple slices. Enjoy!
For this recipe, we used Kellogg's® Eggo® Mickey Mouse Homestyle Waffles which I picked up at Walmart. Anything with Mickey Mouse, princesses or other characters going over really well in our household. Delicious News!
These were perfect for this easy recipe and they toasted so nicely. Ready in 5 minutes or less too! They make an awesome fall snack because the apples and pumpkin are the perfect fall ingredients. I used honeycrisp apples because those are our favorite and the crisp apples worked so well with the creamy pumpkin Greek yogurt.
Eggo waffles and pancakes now have no artificial flavors and colors from natural sources which as a mom, I love. This includes their whole product line! These of course can be made for breakfast but are also great any time of day. We like them for a snack after Adalyn's nap. They can even be made for a light dessert!

Thanks for this Excellent Post! You're teaching Adalyn some much needed and valuable information! I was wondering, Amanda, if you know there are stools that the children can use to stand on when helping in the kitchen? It would be a lot safer for the kids to use that stool instead of sitting on the counter. Here is an example of what I am talking about: https://www.amazon.com/Little-Partners-Learning-Adjustable-Toddlers/dp/B001ECHXVC/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1507643292&sr=8-2&keywords=kids+kitchen+stand
