Monte Cristo Waffle Sandwich
Monte Cristo Waffle Sandwiches only have 5 ingredients and take just 10 minutes to make! The perfect blend of sweet and savory with melted Swiss cheese, raspberry jam, turkey and ham on crispy whole-grain waffles.
I remember the first time that I ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich at a restaurant. It was at a bar/restaurant that we frequent and Troy and I were out with my parents. I believe it was even before Adalyn was born. We were celebrating something and when looking over the specials that the restaurant was having for the day, I spotted a Monte Cristo sandwich. It sounded so unique that I had to order it.
I love all sweet and salty combinations and the combination of the cheese, sweet raspberry jam and savory ham and turkey is so perfect on this sandwich. Anytime I see one of these on the menu, there is about a 90% chance that I am going to order it. They are super tasty and actually easy to make.
Another thing that I love about this recipe is that it can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner (or a snack if you are pretty hungry). Since it is served on a waffle, it is perfect for breakfast. Because it is filling and has meats and cheese, it is great for lunch or dinner.
There are a few variations that you can make with this sandwich. If you prefer strawberry jam to raspberry, feel free to use that. If you do not eat ham, just use turkey. You could also substitute chicken lunch meat. Finally, you can use mozzarella cheese if you do not have Swiss cheese. Up to you! I decided to make this sandwich with classic ingredients since I love it this way so much.
I was a little worried that Troy would not like this sandwich because he is not the biggest fan of fruit and is not obsessed with the sweet/savory combo that I am but I was wrong! He enjoyed it. Adalyn ate a whole half of a sandwich (which is pretty good for a 2 1/2 year old). I of course loved it.
