Key Lime Protein Smoothie
This Key Lime Protein Smoothie is packed full of tart lime flavor and is rich in protein making the perfect breakfast, snack or dessert!
When the weather starts to warm up, smoothies start sounding good again. During the winter months, I always have the best intentions to make and drink smoothies but an ice cold drink never sounds good when it is negative 10 degrees out. I like smoothies because you can customize them so many different ways and pack in a ton of nutrition.
My typical smoothie goes something like this:
-1/2-1 cup fruit (bananas, berries, plums, peaches, cranberries, etc.)
-1-1 1/2 cups milk (cow's, soy, coconut, almond, hemp)
-Large handful of greens (spinach, kale, swiss chard)
-Protein (usually protein powder, sometimes Greek yogurt)
-Ice
I make my smoothies based on what I have on hand, throw everything in the blender and hope for the best. My sister has recently gotten really into smoothies. She loves coming up with all kinds of concoctions. I am still working on getting her to try greens in it. She is hesitant but I swear, you can't taste it, especially baby spinach.
I created this smoothie for something refreshing to drink for summer. The addition of lime was something that I had not tried before but it was very good!
Key Lime Protein Smoothie
Ingredients:
Juice from 1/2 lime
1 banana
1 cup milk of choice
1 large handful baby spinach
1 1/2 tablespoons protein powder (I used Isopure)
Ice
Directions: Blend until well blended. If you like, you can add whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs to make it like key lime pie!
I was recently sent whey protein isolate protein powder to try from Isopure. This whey protein isolate comes in many flavors including: Creamy Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Strawberries and Cream, Cookies and Cream, Banana Cream, Mint Chocolate Chip, Toasted Coconut, Mango Peach, Alpine Punch, Apple Melon and Pineapple Orange Banana. I was sent the unflavored variety which is nice because you can throw this in any recipe and it will not alter the flavor much.
I do like to use protein in recipes such as baked goods, bars and smoothies. Sometimes, I am not good about getting in the protein I need because I love carbs, fruits and vegetables so this protein can be beneficial at times when you need more protein in your diet. The protein is actually clear when dissolved in water which other proteins of course are not. Since other vitamins and minerals are added, it will be cloudy though.
Adalyn loved the lime- she loves citrus and doesn't seem to think it is sour- too cute!
