Amanda H, RD!!
I have some very exciting news to share with all of you! I passed my registered dietitian exam and now am a registered dietitian!!!!
I have worked very hard to get to this point. 5 1/2 years from the start of my journey, I can finally call myself a RD. My desire to become a dietitian started when I took care of my Dzia-Dzia (grandpa in Polish) when I was 14 and 15. He was on a renal diet and I found it very fascinating how nutrition could help with different diseases.I started Western Michigan University in January 2007 and graduated with my bachelor's degree in dietetics 2 1/2 years later. I then worked as a Certified Dietary Manager at a nursing home in South Haven, MI for 1 1/2 years. I loved that job and it solidified my love for the field of dietetics.
I was matched to a dietetic internship beginning in September 2011. It was a long and tough journey but I made it through and learned a ton.
About 1 month ago, I got a full time job at a nursing home as a dietitian. I am enjoying this job very much. For the last two months, I have been studying hard for the RD exam. I studied 5-7 days per week, sometimes for hours at a time. Also, I am working on my master's degree which I will finish in about 1 year from now.
On Tuesday July 31st, I took the exam and very excitingly, passed. My journey as a registered dietitian is just beginning and I cannot wait to see what the future has to hold for me. I have many different ideas of what I want to do and can't wait to see what God has in store for me. So for now, I thank you for reading my blog and I can't wait to share with you the next steps of my journey. Signing off as Amanda H., RD!

ReplyDeleteHow did you survive financially? Any tips on budgeting for 9 months?
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your question. My husband and I saved as much as we could before hand. I had a pretty good job where I was able to pay my bills and save. Also, during the internship, I cut coupons like crazy (still do!), did not go out to eat much, didn't shop for clothes and lived as inexpensively as possible. Also, if you are unable to save much before hand, you can take out student loans which you will be able to pay back when you get a job.
